Caramelized Onions

Honestly, I feel like eating a burger every day. I attempt to change it up each time, but nothing compares to a tried and true classic. You'll love making this sweet topper that really only requires a steady hand and lots of patience. Oh yeah, and it has wine in it!

Feel free to sip on a glass of the giggly stuff and make magic in the kitchen. Here's how it is done.

Ingredients

1 large onion

2 tablespoons of butter

1 tablespoon of oil

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/4 cup of balsamic vinegar

1/2 cup of white wine

Directions

1. Chop the onion into half rings.

2. Melt the butter in a non-stick pan over medium heat, then add in the chopped onions and oil.

3. Cook the onions, stirring constantly, until translucent and reduced by half.

4. Add in balsamic vinegar and white wine.

5. On low heat, simmer onions until most of the liquids have cooked out.

6. Salt to taste.

Tips and Combinations

Put down your bland little burger, take off the top bun and add these delicious caramelized onions to it. Also, try these onions chilled on top of your taco or let it be the main ingredient in your french onion soup or dip!

Time varies slightly with each type of onion. I used red onions in the original recipe for a sweeter taste, but white onions work as well!
