Apple Slaw: Barbecue's Best Friend

Are you wondering what side goes perfectly with your barbecue this 4th of July? Well, look no further than this easy Apple slaw! If you like to cook then you've seen different variations of this one on a recipe site a few times. I took simple and tried to make it just a bit easier.  Here's how to make it.

Ingredients

1/2 a medium cabbage (3 cups)

1 cup of carrots

1 cup of broccoli

2 small apples (granny smith or gala recommended)

1/2 cup of mayo

1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar

1 tablespoon of honey

2 tablespoons of spicy brown mustard

1 teaspoon of pepper

*Salt to taste

Directions

1. Thinly shred the cabbage into long strips.

2. Using the medium holes, grate the carrots.

3. Chop the broccoli roughly and cut the apples into small chunks or matchstick sized pieces

4. In a large bowl, mix cabbage, carrots, broccoli, apples, and mayo together.

5. Add in red wine vinegar, honey, and mustard. Taste the mixture before adding pepper.

6. Chill in the fridge for 30 mins before serving.

Tips and Combinations

Toast up a couple buns and bring out the pulled pork, because this Apple Slaw is perfect on top. It goes well with ribs, chicken, and everything!

You don't have to worry about your no-meat friends if you make it with vegan mayo! Trust me when I say that your meat eaters won't be able to tell the difference.

Add in little extra mayo if you like your slaw consistency thicker and leave out the vinegar for an even sweeter taste. Store in the fridge for up to a week, the flavors will only become more defined over time.
