The Morning Walk 12/21/15

I had a lot of things to complete today. I don’t mind telling the world about what happens in my day. I hope that by letting you into my life you’ll be inspired to improve your own situation.

Over the weekend, I struggled to write a new article for a job. The specifics are not all that important, what is important is the fact that it was extremely hard to write when asked to do so. I was brought back to my graduate school days when there was only a week left before a paper was due. I finally decided to just go with one idea and send links to previous things I wrote as well. Wish me luck!

Since I spent all of the morning and most of the afternoon writing, I took my walk with friends around 4PM. I set out with two lovely ladies on a nice little adventure. One of the two ladies is also the hostess featured in my soon to be posted My First Two FriendsGivings. She spent about 10 minutes before we started to walk complaining about the impending rain. It did not rain on our entire trip. The other young lady is a new friend who has a big personality packed into a cute little body. I think that all people below 5 feet are required to be awesome; it is in the constitution.

We passed the local grocery store then struck up a conversation about an old church to our right. This church is a bit of a mystery. It has a very nice exterior, but mostly looks unused and on the verge of condemnation. I saw a light flickering in one window and knew that all wasn’t lost. There is nothing like a church of any religion to get you thinking about your own existence in this world. I exist to be great, at least that is what I believe. Moving on….

One of the girls took a video of her old apartment as our stride started to kick in. I wondered if my old apartment was still as unappealing as when I lived there. I hated my small studio and I vowed to this day to never stay in one again. Go ahead call me a snob, but you wouldn’t if you saw this apartment. Definitely a first world problem...I promise to give back as soon as I have something to give.

We made it to the halfway point and BEYOND today! My 5 foot companion needed to stop by the bank, so my extended walk began. We passed all the usual fair when walking through college town USA. McDonald’s, Starbucks, random sushi place, random donut place, and of course a random car dealership…..but I’m going to try this newly opened Dog Haus place that my friend keeps raving about…..I’m a sucker for new food.

Right down past the university, past all the college housing and there is a lot of student housing in my neighborhood; that fact isn’t all that odd. What I do find strange is what some students perceive as a need while in college. You are supposed to struggle in college, that is how you become a responsible adult. If you have a little, you learn to appreciate things more when you have a lot. I ramble on a bit about Los Angeles and its inhabitants from time to time, but I do love this place even if sometimes I hate it. I think the biggest lesson I learned on this long extended walk with a couple of friends was to enjoy the company of others. Time does seem to fly by when you’re having fun. Thank you very much to my walking buddies. Drinks are definitely on me when we all make it big!

I hope that my morning helped you start yours. Tomorrow is just a story away.
