Knead-less Bread
Two weeks is not too much time to experiment with making bread....right? I cannot lie, before this year I never thought twice about baking bread. Why complicate my sandwich by kneading dough? Yet, store bought bread has so many fishy ingredients inside it. It was only a matter of time before I ditched the azodicarbonamide! I stopped eating non-organic bread a while back, and you will soon do the same after googling that word. Yeah, its in your bread!
Fear, not millennials! You too can make bread and you can do it while you're on the go. Here is how I slept my way to fresh baked bread......
Ingredients
3 cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of dry active yeast
3 teaspoons of honey
2 cups of water
Directions
1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, and yeast.
2. Create a well in the center of the flour mix. Then pour the water and honey into the center. Stir until the mix just comes together.
3. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and place in a turned off oven (or any warm place, counter, closet, sun room, etc.) for 12-24 hours.
*8 hours is enough time for a good rise, 12 hours is just the right amount of time, but if you get to the full 24 it is even better.
4. On a well-floured surface, dump out your risen dough and shape into a large ball. Place your dough ball (oval) on a large greased pan, pot, or skillet that can withstand the heat of a very hot oven. Let it rise again for 1 hour!
5. Preheat an oven to 450 degrees.
6. Time to bake! Place your oven safe pan/pot/skillet on the center rack and bake for 20-30 mins or until the top of your bread loaf cracks open and has a nice golden appearance. Let it cool before slicing.
7. Butter it and Eat!
Tips and Combinations
Prepare this bread right before bed! Why go to sleep without preparing tomorrow's fresh loaves.
I actually made a garlic rosemary butter to brush over the top before baking. It was a mix of melted butter, pink Himalayan salt, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, and black pepper. You could go no fuss with just the butter.
I'm in love with my own special bread. Some people aspire to grow pot in the back yard.... I dream of my own strand of wheat. Yeah, Danny the Wheat Farmer. It has a really nice ring to it.
In the words of Mary Berry (look her up): Bake! Did she say that? ........have fun making your own bread kids.
