Millionaire's Cereal Bars via @Tastemade

To start, I have to give a big thank you to @Tastemade. I watch their Snapchat daily and it is where I get some of my best recipe ideas.

I wanted to show my co-workers how much I appreciated them with a small gesture. I was going to make cupcakes.....boring. I thought about cookies......unoriginal. Then I saw a lovely young lady by the name of Molly Yeh produce a wonderful creation called Millionaire's Cereal Bars.

I decided that this was the treat for my colleagues. Off to the grocery store I went!

This is the one recipe where quantities can be altered to your liking. You can put more here or less there, but here are the basics.....

Ingredients

1 - 1lb bag of mini marshmallows

4 cups of puffed rice cereal (generic or name brand works....save yourself the extra buck)

1 - 24oz bag of dark chocolate chips (chunks)

2 - 11oz bags of caramels or jars of caramel sauce

4 Tbsp of butter

2 cups of chopped or crushed pretzel pieces

3 tablespoons of milk

Sprinkles (round and cylindrical shapes)

Directions

1. Melt butter in a large pot over medium to low heat.

2. Pour marshmallows into the pot with butter and stir until mixture becomes smooth.

3. Remove pot from heat, stir puffed rice cereal and pretzels into marshmallows.

4. Pour into a parchment-lined baking dish. Use your hands to press it into an even layer.

5. In a separate saucepan melt your caramels and milk on low stirring constantly. If you decided to take the easy route and use the pre-made stuff just heat it in the microwave until spreadable. Then, pour the caramel evenly over the cooled puffed rice.

6. Melt your dark chocolate in the microwave on 30 second intervals to prevent burning. A double boiler works as well. Then pour the melted chocolate over the cooled caramel.

7. Add your choice of sprinkles before the chocolate hardens to lock them in place.

8. Chill for an hour in the fridge then cut and serve.

Tips and Combinations

There really isn't much to say about this one. Marshmallows, puffed rice, pretzels, caramel, chocolate, and sprinkles all come together to make magic. Kids are sure to have fun making this one with mom and dad!

After seeing this one prepared, I knew it had to be on my list of treats to make. I watched them disappear before my eyes as my co-workers consumed these sweet treats.

What other ways can we make this one special? Remember, I'm not saying this is the right way, more like this is one of many ways to do it. If you like how I've done it or love the original, feel free to like and share this with a friend.
