DNA Part 3

His arms were wrapped so tightly around me. We were now face to face with our bodies pressed against each other. I could feel his chest rise and fall as he slept soundly. I pulled the covers back ever so slightly, so the light revealed his outline. Half in shadow and half glowing from the morning sun pouring into the room. I thought to myself, “So this wasn’t a dream.” I really did meet this guy and spend the night in his bed. Then my heart started to beat so fast, a rush of anxiety mixed with fear flooded over my body. I was starting to panic…..then suddenly I heard a rumbling across the room. His roommate had came in sometime last night! Millions of questions started to run through my mind. Did he see us? Did he tell his friends? Was the secret already out? Are the people on LOST really in Purgatory?

Wait! I had to calm down. I realized in that moment that there was no secret. I was never in or out of anything. I cannot define my before, with my now or my future. I didn’t care if his roommate knew. But would he care?

I decided to air on the side of maybe this was just a one time thing. He would wake up and say, “Well that was fun, but not for me.” I laugh every time I think about that day. My phone read 9:47AM and I was past due for a shower. I had a class at 11 that I couldn’t miss. I began to uncouple his arms and legs from around me. To my surprise, it was like trying to remove a bunch tentacles. For every one that loosened another seemed to tighten and re-position.

It was actually very sweet.

After some hard work, I finally escaped his clutches. I used a body pillow as my stand-in. He didn’t seem to notice at first, but tossed and turned for a few minutes before settling down again. I was just about to get up and leave when a hand grabbed my wrist. It was Adrian half asleep. The sun reflected off of his brown eyes giving them a golden sheen as he pulled me back into the bed. Once again his arms were wrapped tightly around me.

Adrian: Where the F*$k are you going?
Me: Class. It is now 10:05. You are going to make me late.
Adrian: Skip it.

I lowered my voice and informed him that his roommate was here.

Adrian: So.
Me: Okay. But I really have to go.
Adrian: I don’t think I can get back to sleep if you leave.
Me: Well you will just have to be on time for a few classes today.

With those last words his lips were once again pressed against mine. Wow. That time it felt like I was in heaven. I had my first, second, third, and fourth kisses all in the same 24 hours. I was over the moon to say the least. I don’t remember the exact conversation we had as I left the room, but the way he hugged me is something I could never forget.

I ran across the parking, through the common area of another dorm, and into the stairwell closest to my room. I opened the door and noticed Theo still asleep. I took off my clothes quietly and headed for a quick shower. I stuck my head under the water and fully immersed myself in the sensation. I contemplated my life, my goals, and of course what I’d eat at lunch today. I was having such a good day….thus far. I stepped out of the shower reached for my towel and toothbrush only to be startled by an outline standing in the doorway. It was Theo with an inquisitive look on his face. I told him good morning and continued to brush my teeth at the bathroom mirror. Out of the corner of my eye, I could still see him standing and staring. Finally, I asked him what was up? He turned his head slightly and started to laugh using a few words not spoken in polite society.

Theo: So you stayed out all night with some random girl and you’re not even going to tell me about it?

With my mouth filled with toothpaste, I tried to formulate a response. Theo interrupted me before I could do so.

Theo: I’ve known you since first grade and there is no way you would just stay out with anybody. You rarely go to parties with me.
Me: ………..
Theo: So was it that snow bunny from dinner the other night. She was all over you!
Me: No, now I have to get ready I have class in 20 minutes.

Theo continued to follow me around the room asking questions and analyzing my behavior. I explained to him that I was just hanging with a friend and lost track of time studying and stuff.

Look at me using the old “and stuff” move.

He was not buying any of it. He even said he saw me running to the soccer field with a guy yesterday.

Me: Yeah, that was Adrian.
Theo: Ha! So you admit you met someone at the soccer field.
Me: Good Flannel T-shirts Batman! You’ve figured me out now.
Theo: Very Funny. But you will tell me. You always do. I must approve of this chick.

It was nice that he cared, but if he knew the real truth would he feel differently….

A knock on the door halted his incessant ramblings and he rushed to open it.

Theo: I bet this is her. She is already stalking you. Eh.

Theo opened the door and on the other side was Adrian. Fully dressed and beaming. I almost jumped out of my own skin at the sight of him. Theo greeted him like they’d been friends for life. Just my luck he already approves.

Adrian: Hey, we’re going to be late for class.
Me: Sure. I’m almost ready.

Theo asked Adrian if he knew who I had spent the night with. So, I started to punch him in the stomach and push him out of the way. Adrian grinned with a mischievous look on his face.

Adrian: Oh yeah is that right. Must have been hot, he’s starting to blush.
Theo: I know right. He must like her.
Adrian: Probably that blonde from class right?
Theo: I knew it was a blonde. Just tell us!
Me:......you two are idiots.

Theo whispered something into Adrian’s ear and I knew for sure it is time to go. I grabbed him by the hand and we made our exit. Adrian yelled back to Theo and said “Hope we get to meet this new girl soon.” I loved how they found common ground in annoying me.

Adrian gripped my hand as we strolled down the hallway to the exit. I wondered if someone had seen us, or if it was even okay to do so yet. I mean I’d already kissed him and slept over, so I guess we were past the hand holding stage in this relationship……...friendship……..bro-ship. I had no idea what we were at the time.

I broke my hand away from his before we left the building. I wasn’t sure if I was ready for that type of attention. Adrian looked almost disappointed, but he got over it by putting his arm around my shoulder. I guess he knew that no one would misinterpret friendly arm love between two guys.

My reasoning was pretty sound at the time.

Me: What did Theo whisper to you before we left my room?
Adrian: He wanted to know if I had actually met any new girls while with you.
Me: What did you say?
Adrian: I said you seem pretty taken with this new person. I wanted to meet them too.
Me: Maybe this new person will get to spend the night in my room next time.
Adrian: Hoping.

We parted ways at the intersection leading into the quad, but not before he gave me a big hug. He said he would see me later and went off to eat an early lunch. I headed down to my Economics class with only seconds to spare before the professor closed the door. I would have definitely blamed Theo later if I missed that day’s quiz. However, I could have done without all the equations. I was finished with classes around 6:00PM and ate dinner before the doors closed at the cafeteria. I felt kind of sad eating alone. I took out my phone and started to text Adrian, but decided not to send it. I was trying to navigate this new found connection, yet I didn’t want to go too fast. I finished my meal and went to my room to try and catch the end of Prison Break. Unsuccessfully, I might add.

When I opened the door, Theo immediately came to my side of the room. He was holding a new copy of my favorite First Person Shooter video game. Adrian was playing it last night before the soccer game. He handed it to me and told me to open it so we could play it. I wondered why he wanted me to open his game then realized there was a note attached to the top. It was addressed to me with a little DNA molecule in the corner of the envelope. I opened it and read the note out loud.

"For the only guy who has ever gotten me into bed on the first night"

 +

I almost started to cry. It was by far the best gift anyone had ever given me, and the most thoughtful. Theo told me some girl named Morgan dropped the game off earlier. He asked me if that was the girl I’d spent the night with. I ignored his questions and told him he could play the game. I took out my phone and sent my secret admirer a quick text.

To Adrian: 143

From Adrian: 143

As I tucked the note away inside my desk drawer I noticed an A on the back. Weird. I sprawled out across the bed to decompress from a long day. I grabbed my body pillow and wondered when would be the next time I got to hold this wonderful guy. Before my eyes closed my phone buzzed once more.

From Adrian: DNA + Movies = Saturday Fun

To Adrian: Best Equation I’ve seen all day
