The Morning Walk 12/17/15

If I’m completely honest, it was very hard to get up today. I didn’t go to bed until about 4AM due to a bad choice that involved eating a large candy bar and drinking a glass of juice at midnight. My mind was wide awake. Nonetheless, I still got up within the six o’clock hour and trudged through my morning routine. Brush teeth, brush hair, slap face a few times to really wake up.

A slight version in my route today, but not far off the beaten path. I started off down a quiet little street in the neighborhood. I played witness to a young guy and girl saying their morning goodbyes. It was very sweet like a scene in a bad romantic comedy except you believe every moment of it. I watched as they struggled to part ways. The honeymoon phase of all relationships came to mind. The guy passed me as the girl returned to the house. His face was lit up with joy and I saw her look back for a final glance before closing the door. I think we should all begin our morning with a kiss to a beloved. I just have to find a beloved first…..

Pass my old roommate’s street, I encountered a group of lovely little old women. I was entranced by their layers of clothing that included a coats, scarves, gloves, and a variety of colorful dresses blowing in the morning breeze. I can only hope to have half the grace of these women at whatever age they were. I passed them with a pleasant good morning and received smiles, good mornings and a Buenos Dias for flare. I saw the next busy intersection and wondered what observations were right across the street.

I’m not proud of this next bit. I have to admit to being a bit of a stereotypical first world-er. I was locked into my phone texting and almost ran into the side of a bus stop and then a pole. Luckily, I realized that I had no desire to be on next week’s addition of AFV, so I put the phone back into my pocket. I noticed how many RVs lined the streets in Los Angeles in random places and how a young man had the ability to ride his bike with no hands. I know that riding a bike with no hands isn’t all that extraordinary, but I don’t have a bike nor can I do that very well. I salute you bike wizard.

I stopped ¼ of the way this morning to admire the sheer disgust I have for humanity as I passed a tree shrouded in trash. I really don’t understand why people litter. If we lived in medieval times I might excuse trash lining the streets, but not in modern day America! There are trash cans everywhere and most people won’t verbally assault your person if you decide to toss in a few items. I can only hope that the world gets better.

The rest of the first half of my walk was pretty uneventful. I listened to a bit of Jess Glynne and contemplated how I’d commit a jewelry heist. I think I’d need a some all black clothing, maybe a new pair of boots, and a lot of enthusiasm to get the job done. Oh yeah and maybe a seasoned jewelry thief. Drop me an email to get things under way.

More than half of the walk was over and I passed a man wearing a completely coordinated outfit. He had the shirt, the pants, hat, and wore loads of cologne to pull it all together. Maybe go a little lighter on the scent guy.

Almost back home and I see the wonderful sight of a car missing its convertible roof. This person was clearly not one to give up on their dreams as they had made a makeshift roof out of scraps from the old one, cardboard boxes, and duct tape. It just goes to show everyone that even when you don’t have a roof over your head, you can still take shade under a tree with all the rest of life’s trash. What a fitting statement if I do say so myself.

I hope that my morning helped you start yours. Tomorrow is just a story away.
